Chase to Hyatt Transfer Ratio CHANGING Oct 1st!
A huge bummer of a devaluation is going into effect October 1st, so here's what you need to know, and what you can do about it!
If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Ink Business Preferred, there’s a HUGE change coming October 1st that you need to be ready for.
I’m talking about the upcoming Hyatt transfer ratio changes.
If you have the Sapphire Preferred, this change only applies if you opened your card before June 15th, 2026. If you opened your Sapphire Preferred after June 15th then your transfer ratio is already the "new" one. If you have the Ink Business Preferred, this upcoming change applies regardless of when you opened the card.
Currently, you can transfer your Chase points to Hyatt at a one-to-one ratio.
So for instance if you transfer 10,000 Chase points, you get 10,000 Hyatt points.
But starting October 1st, that transfer ratio is changing and not for the better.
As of October 1st your new transfer ratio will be 4:3 meaning that for every 1,000 Chase points you transfer to Hyatt, you will only get 750 Hyatt points. (😭)
But don't worry, there are some options you might have to help you continue to have access to the coveted 1:1 transfer ratio, and one of these requires action by September 3oth, so LISTEN UP!
Number one: If you also have a Chase Sapphire Reserve or Sapphire Reserve for Business card, you don’t necessarily need to do anything because those cards will still have access to the 1:1 Hyatt transfer ratio. You can simply move your points from your Chase Sapphire Preferred to one of those 2 cards and then you'll be able to transfer to Hyatt at the 1:1 ratio!
Number two: Now, this is something I would NOT normally tell you to do, but if you’re anything like me and Hyatt is one of your g0-to transfer partner through Chase, you could consider transferring the points you reasonably expect to use over the next 6 to 12 months BEFORE the October 1st deadline.
I did this exact thing today.
⚠️But, just remember that transfers are final. So once you’re transferred those points to Hyatt, you can’t move them back. So I would only do this with points you’re confident you’ll actually use with Hyatt.
And number three: If your spouse has a Chase Sapphire Reserve or Sapphire Reserve for Business and you’re eligible to combine Ultimate Rewards points with them, you may have another way to maintain access to that 1:1 Hyatt transfer ratio!!!
If you haven’t combined points with your spouse before, you will need to call Chase to get your accounts set up for point sharing. It's a simple phone call and to make it go as smoothly as possible I suggest you both be available to talk to the Chase representative and be able to login to the account you want to transfer from when you're on the call.
Once you accounts are linked, you should see the option to “Combine Points” under Manage Rewards (on the website) or under Manage Points (on the app). Then you can move points to your spouse’s Sapphire Reserve card and have them transfer to their Hyatt account at the 1:1 ratio.
See, it's not all doom and gloom, you may have options to keep that 1:1 ratio we all love with Hyatt. And if one of these options doesn't currently work for you, keep in mind that you can always open a Chase Sapphire Reserve in the future and take advantage of the more beneficial ratio through that card.
Or, "worst case" scenario, you can still transfer to Hyatt at the new 4:3 ratio. I mean, even at the new ratio Hyatt is still one of the most valuable transfer partners out there for hotel stays in my opinion, so don't get too discouraged.
Will you be transferring your Chase points to Hyatt before October 1st? Or what is your new Hyatt redemption strategy, I'd love to hear it!
